Trentino

Dolomite valleys, Lake Garda's northern tip and Italy's alpine lakes

The Italian-speaking half of the old Trentino-Alto Adige. Trento itself is a compact Renaissance city that hosted the Council of Trent; north and east of it open the Val di Fassa, Val di Fiemme and the Brenta Dolomites, with Madonna di Campiglio at their centre. To the south, the Sarca valley drops to the top of Lake Garda at Riva del Garda — which is why Trentino manages to offer high alpine walking and lake sailing an hour apart.
