The resort
Chopok Jasná is the northern flank of the wider Jasná Nízke Tatry resort, the side that falls from the Chopok summit down into the Demänová valley. Facing north, it is the shaded, colder aspect that holds snow longest and carries the resort's most developed infrastructure, including its principal base area and the modern gondola and Funitel network. Above the treeline the north side opens into the alpine bowls that have made Jasná the freeride hub of the region, while below it the pistes run long and broad through the forest to the valley floor. It is the glamorous, high-energy face of the mountain. Skiers can cross the summit ridge to descend the sunnier southern side and return.
Go for the coldest, most snow-reliable aspect of Slovakia's biggest mountain, the best of its freeride terrain, the most modern lifts and the liveliest base. It suits advanced skiers, freeriders and anyone wanting the full-energy Jasná experience on its marquee side.
The northern exposure keeps this face cold and shaded, preserving snow well into the season and giving the freeride bowls their quality, though the high, wind-exposed summit lifts can shut in storms. Below the treeline the pistes are long, wide and well groomed, backed by snowmaking; the overall feel is more alpine and more serious than the sunnier southern flank.

The modern Demänová valley base
The north side carries the resort's principal, most developed base, with modern gondolas, hotels and the busiest après. It is the operational and social heart of Jasná.
Crossing to the sunny south side
From the Chopok summit, skiers can drop over the ridge onto the sunnier southern flank and later return, sampling two aspects in one outing. The contrast between the cold north and the warmer south is part of the mountain's appeal.

How to get there
Poprad (POP) is the nearest gateway, a straightforward drive west and up into the Demänová valley to the northern base; Bratislava and Kraków are longer alternatives.
The valley road up to the northern base is good and direct, climbing gently from Liptovský Mikuláš into the Demänová valley.
Best time: January through March is best, with the shaded north face holding snow reliably deep into the season.
