How to get there
Poprad (POP) is the packet gateway, though it lies well to the east; for this north-western corner, Bratislava, Vienna and Kraków are often more convenient longer-haul arrival points, with Žilina the nearest city.
The approach runs up from Žilina through Terchová into the Vrátna valley on scenic but winding mountain roads that can be snowbound in midwinter.
Best time: January and February give the most reliable cover, with the higher ridge terrain best in settled weather.
