Perched on the flanks of Bozdağ above the town of Tavas, Denizli Kayak Merkezi is a compact, municipally-run centre that gives the warm cities of the Turkish Aegean a genuine slice of winter within a couple of hours' drive. It is modest in scale and firmly a locals' and families' hill rather than a destination resort, with a handful of pistes served by a small lift network and a friendly, low-key atmosphere. The high summit elevation keeps a reasonable cover through the coldest months, and its proximity to Pamukkale's travertines makes it an appealing add-on for travellers combining sun, culture and a taste of snow. Expect uncomplicated skiing, short queues and honest mountain prices rather than gloss.

How to get there
Denizli Çardak Airport (DNZ) is the nearest gateway, roughly an hour and a half away by road, with İzmir Adnan Menderes (ADB) the larger international hub a few hours off.
The final approach is a winding mountain road up from Tavas; a car is by far the easiest way to reach the slopes.
Best time: January to early March offers the most reliable cover on this southerly, high-altitude hill.
