Troodos is Cyprus's only ski area, a tiny cluster of runs high on Mount Olympus (Chionistra) in the island's central mountains. Snow-marginal and low-key, it is more a novelty and a scenic day out than a serious ski destination.

Après & vibe
The mountain villages and Troodos square nearby offer tavernas and Cypriot mountain fare rather than any ski nightlife.
The resort
Perched around the summit of Mount Olympus, the highest point on Cyprus, Troodos offers the improbable sight of skiing on a Mediterranean island. The area is very small, with short, gentle runs on the Sun Valley and North Face slopes that suit beginners, families and the simply curious. Honesty matters here: this is a snow-marginal spot where the season is short and unpredictable, dependent on cold snaps that briefly whiten the pines. What makes it memorable is context, the chance to ski in the morning and reach a warm coast the same afternoon, all amid a landscape dotted with UNESCO-listed painted Byzantine churches and old mountain villages. Come for the experience, not the scale.

Genuinely marginal: as a low Mediterranean mountain, Troodos gets only a short, erratic season of cold-snap snowfall, typically some weeks between January and March, and cover can be patchy or absent.

Skiing & terrain
Short, gentle slopes and a learning area are the heart of the offering.
A couple of easy runs for a few relaxed descents.
Very little challenge; this is not a mountain for strong skiers.
No expert terrain; the appeal is entirely the novelty and setting.
Ski and sea in a single day
From the pines of Mount Olympus you can be on a warm Cypriot beach within a couple of hours, making a morning's snow-and-afternoon-swim outing the area's real signature.

A winding but scenic drive up into the Troodos mountains from the coast; a hire car is the practical way to reach the slopes.
Best time: Late January and February give the best, though still uncertain, chance of snow at this Mediterranean altitude.
