The resort
The Cedars is the grande dame of Lebanese skiing, the country's oldest ski area and its highest, spread across the flanks of the northern mountains above the town of Bcharre. Its terrain is compact and best suited to beginners and intermediates, but the setting is extraordinary: the slopes sit beside the fabled Cedars of God, a UNESCO-listed grove of ancient trees, with the Qadisha Valley plunging away below. Skiing here is more about atmosphere, altitude and heritage than lift-served scale, and the surrounding region, birthplace of the poet Khalil Gibran, adds deep cultural draw. Being genuinely high, it holds snow better than Lebanon's lower resorts, with a season typically from January into early spring.

How to get there
Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY) is the gateway, roughly two to two and a half hours away by mountain road.
A scenic but winding drive up from Beirut through Bcharre and the Qadisha Valley; a car or arranged transfer is needed.
Best time: January and February are the most reliable months, with high-altitude snow sometimes lasting into early spring.
