The snow centre
Zaarour Club is a genuine outdoor ski resort on the eastern flanks of Mount Sannine, run as a private club but the nearest snow to Beirut. Its north-facing slopes, ranging across a spread of pistes for all abilities, hold snow well and are backed by a snowmaking system, notable in a country where the Mediterranean climate makes the season short and changeable. Beyond the skiing the club is a full leisure resort, with a hotel, restaurants, pools and family facilities, giving it a resort-village feel rather than a bare-bones ski hill. The setting is striking, with panoramas over the surrounding valleys and, on clear days, the sea. It draws Beirut day-trippers and weekenders above all.
