The snow centre
Qanat Bakish is a small outdoor ski area set high on Mount Lebanon near the resort of Faqra, looking across to the great massif of Mount Sannine. It is genuine mountain skiing rather than an artificial venue, with a scattering of lifts and runs on open, sunny slopes, and it has been drawing skiers since a first lift was built here in the 1960s. Only about an hour from Beirut, it is an easy escape combining snow with sweeping Mediterranean mountain views. The old village of Qanat Bakish nearby is among Lebanon's best-preserved. As with all Lebanese skiing, the season is short and changeable, warmed by the coastal climate, so conditions swing between deep snow and bare slopes.
The slope
Open, sunny lower slopes suit those finding their feet.
The bulk of the runs offer relaxed cruising with big views.
Limited steep pisted terrain, though fresh snow opens off-piste lines.
Not a dedicated expert area, but tempting after a good storm.
Skiing opposite Mount Sannine
The area's open slopes face the towering Sannine massif, giving some of the finest mountain panoramas of any Lebanese resort.

How to get there
Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport is the gateway, roughly an hour away by road.
A mountain road climbs quickly from the coast into the snow line; most visitors drive up from Beirut.
