The snow centre
Fereydunshahr is a small outdoor ski area set very high in the Zagros Mountains west of Isfahan, often cited as the loftiest ski resort in Iran. It is genuine mountain skiing, not an indoor or artificial venue, but a compact one: a couple of lifts and a short spread of runs at altitudes where the thin, cold air keeps snow crisp. Far from the better-known Alborz resorts near Tehran, it serves the towns of central Iran and sees mostly local skiers and families rather than international visitors. The setting is bare, high and dramatic, and the mood is unpolished and welcoming. Its great height helps the snow, but the season is still a winter affair on an exposed plateau.
The slope
Gentle lower slopes and a beginners' tow suit first-timers.
A short choice of runs for steady skiing rather than variety.
Limited marked terrain, though the high open bowls appeal to the adventurous.
Not a lift-served expert destination, but the surrounding peaks tempt ski-tourers.
The highest skiing in Iran
Perched high on the Zagros, Fereydunshahr is regularly described as Iran's loftiest ski resort, with a chairlift that also serves a summer zipline.
