The snow centre
Khor is a compact but genuinely high-mountain ski area in the Alborz range, reached from the Chalous road above Karaj and within a couple of hours of Tehran. Unlike the bigger-name Alborz resorts of Dizin and Shemshak, it is a smaller, quieter place, but it sits at real altitude and the terrain is authentic mountain skiing rather than a novelty slope. Its height means the snow, when it comes, can be dry and good, and the season runs through the depths of the Iranian winter. The setting is stark and scenic, framed by the reservoir of the nearby dam and the bare Alborz peaks. It draws locals and day-trippers from the capital more than international visitors.
