The snow centre
Kanggye is a small outdoor ski area near the city of the same name in Chagang province, deep in the rugged, cold interior of northern North Korea. It is genuine hillside skiing rather than an indoor or artificial venue, but a very modest development: a short spread of beginner and intermediate slopes served by simple lifts, built as part of the state's push to add winter facilities beyond the flagship Masikryong resort. Little independent detail is publicly confirmed, and the area is remote, close to the Chinese border and effectively inaccessible to independent foreign visitors. The setting is a harsh continental winter that brings dependable cold and snow. It is best understood as an obscure local facility rather than a resort travellers can readily book.
