The resort
Songhua Lake Ski Resort, on the flanks of Qingshan mountain in Jilin Province, is one of the flagships of China's fast-growing northeastern ski scene. It overlooks the large Songhua reservoir lake and lies close to Jilin City, a region celebrated for its winter rime ice, when frost coats the trees along the water in feathery white. The resort itself is a modern, purpose-built development with a broad spread of groomed runs suited mainly to beginners and intermediates, plus a resort village of hotels and apres facilities. The climate is severely cold and dry in midwinter, giving a long, dependable season built on natural cold and extensive snowmaking. It appeals to families and newer skiers from across China and increasingly to visitors drawn by the scenery, rather than to hardcore off-piste seekers. The overall feel is polished, convenient and geared to a comfortable winter holiday.

How to get there
Changchun Longjia International (CGQ) is the regional gateway, serving both Changchun and nearby Jilin City, roughly an hour or so away by road; high-speed rail also links the region.
A short road transfer connects the airport and Jilin City to the resort, straightforward on modern highways.
Best time: December through February is the core season, coldest and most reliable, and the best window for the famous rime ice.
