The resort
Semenic sits on a broad, forested plateau in the Caraș-Severin county of the Banat, one of Romania's oldest and southernmost ski spots. It is a modest, unpretentious area of short pistes and simple lifts that draws mainly weekend visitors from Reșița, Timișoara and the surrounding region. The skiing is easygoing and best suited to beginners, families and those learning their turns, while cross-country trails thread the spruce forests around the base. At this southern latitude and moderate altitude the snow can be changeable, so it rewards a well-timed midwinter visit. What it offers instead of steep drama is calm, fresh mountain air and a genuinely local, uncrowded feel.

How to get there
Timișoara's Traian Vuia International Airport (TSR) is the natural regional gateway to the Banat, a couple of hours' drive away.
From Reșița a mountain road winds up to the plateau; expect a slow, scenic climb by car.
