Rising from the town of Petroșani in the Jiu Valley, Parâng is a wild, gradually developing area on the northern shoulder of the Parâng Mountains, one of Romania's higher and more serious ranges. It has long been a favourite of adventurous locals for its genuine gradient and generous top-to-bottom drop, and it retains a raw, work-in-progress feel rather than the polish of a purpose-built resort. Lift infrastructure is limited and the layout modest, so the reward is quiet slopes, real mountain scenery and terrain that skis bigger than its size suggests. It suits confident skiers and those happy to trade amenities for atmosphere.
