The resort
Its name means 'Brașov glade', and Poiana Brașov sits exactly that way — in a broad clearing among the pines on the slopes of Postăvarul, a short drive above the historic Saxon city of Brașov. It is Romania's most developed and most popular resort, geared to beginners and intermediates who want gentle, tree-lined runs, well-regarded ski schools and a genuinely lively village of hotels, restaurants and bars. Snow reliability is only moderate given the modest altitude, but extensive snowmaking keeps the main pistes running through the core of winter. A cable car climbs to the Postăvarul summit for the resort's longest descents and wide Carpathian views. Combined with easy access to Brașov's medieval old town, it makes an excellent-value winter break.

Skiing & terrain
Excellent — gentle nursery slopes and highly rated ski schools make it a top learning choice.
Enjoyable blue and red cruising, including longer top-to-bottom runs from Postăvarul.
Limited steep pisted terrain, with a couple of sharper pitches off the summit.
Little challenge for experts, though touring is possible in the wider massif.

How to get there
Bucharest's Henri Coandă (OTP) is the main international gateway, around two and a half to three hours by road; the newer Brașov-Ghimbav airport is far closer for regional flights.
An easy drive up from Brașov, which sits just below the resort and is well connected by rail from Bucharest.
Best time: January and February bring the most dependable cover and busiest, liveliest atmosphere.
