The resort
Tucked into the Prahova Valley between the better-known resorts of Sinaia and Bușteni, Azuga is a compact ski area centred on the Sorica slopes above the town. Its runs are largely tree-lined and sheltered, giving a calmer, more intimate feel than its busier valley neighbours and making it a pleasant option for families and improving skiers. Snow at these Carpathian elevations is reasonable in a cold winter but variable, with snowmaking used to secure the main pistes. Off the slopes, the town is renowned for its historic Rhein sparkling-wine cellars, adding a distinctive touch to an après scene. How to get there
