The snow centre
Sky Resort is the principal ski area of Mongolia, laid out on hills just outside Ulaanbaatar and serving as the capital's local mountain. It is a compact, modern day resort with a small spread of groomed runs, lifts and a lodge, aimed at city families, beginners and improving skiers rather than serious mountain terrain. Set on the fringe of the Mongolian steppe, it benefits from the country's long, intensely cold and dry winters, which keep the machine-groomed snow firm for months. Because it is so close to the city, most people come out for a day or an evening, with lit slopes extending the short daylight. It is a genuine novelty for visitors and a rare piece of built ski infrastructure in a vast, high, cold country.

How to get there
