Genting Secret Garden, known in Chinese as Yunding, is one of the anchor resorts of the Chongli ski district north-west of Beijing and one of the highest-profile venues of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, where it hosted the freestyle skiing and snowboarding events. That Olympic pedigree defines its character: it is China's leading freestyle and park destination, home to a superpipe and world-class terrain parks, set alongside a broad spread of groomed pistes for cruising skiers and boarders. The resort is a polished, purpose-built development with a modern base village of hotels and services, busy with weekenders from Beijing and quieter midweek. How to get there
Beijing (Capital PEK or Daxing PKX) is the gateway, not any airport in China's northeast; the resort lies in Hebei north-west of the capital and is reached by road or the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail to the Chongli area in a few hours.
The high-speed railway serves the Chongli district, from which a short shuttle reaches the resort; driving from Beijing is also popular.
Best time: December to February is the core season, coldest and most snow-sure, and the prime window for the terrain parks.
