The resort
Once a patchwork of ageing lifts, Szczyrk was transformed by a major investment into one of Central Europe's most up-to-date resorts, linking the Skrzyczne and Małe Skrzyczne mountains above the resort town of Szczyrk with modern gondolas and fast chairs. The tree-lined pistes suit families, beginners and intermediates best, with reliable grooming, extensive snowmaking and floodlit night skiing. Natural snow is only moderately reliable given the modest Beskid altitude, but the artificial system keeps the network running through the season. The lively town below offers plentiful lodging, hearty góral mountain food and an easy-going Polish resort atmosphere. Its closeness to the cities of Silesia makes it a popular and good-value winter escape.
