Tsaghkadzor climbs the wooded flanks of Mount Teghenis in the Kotayk highlands, its multi-stage ropeway lifting skiers from the resort town up through the forest to open upper slopes. As Armenia's main and best-developed ski area, it has served for decades as a high-altitude Olympic training centre, and that sporting pedigree still shapes its infrastructure. The pistes are largely gentle to moderate, threading between trees lower down and opening out towards the summit, which makes it welcoming for families and improvers. Below the lifts, the spa town is a lively, established resort with the medieval Kecharis monastery at its heart. Add Yerevan barely an hour away and the whole experience is easy, scenic and remarkably affordable.
