▸ What it is

A Sprint weekend at Albert Park, Melbourne, 2–4 April 2027, with free trams and trains from the city to the circuit for ticket holders.

The Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is round 3 of the 2027 season, on the Albert Park circuit a few kilometres south of central Melbourne. formula1.com lists the Formula 1 weekend as Friday 2 to Sunday 4 April 2027, and it is a Sprint weekend (a short extra race on Saturday, on top of Sunday's Grand Prix): one practice session and Sprint Qualifying (a short session that sets the starting order for the Sprint) on Friday, the Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday, and the race on Sunday. 2027 session times are TBC. The promoter's event runs over four days, from Thursday 1 April, and its 4-day tickets cover Thursday to Sunday.

The 5.278 km track uses the roads around Albert Park Lake, mainly Aughtie Drive and Lakeside Drive, and has hosted the race since 1996. formula1.com describes it as bumpy and slippery at the start of the weekend, and one of the faster tracks on the calendar. For spectators it is a parkland venue: grandstands around the lake, general admission spots on the far side of it, and precincts with stages and fan activities.

As a trip, Melbourne is about as easy as an F1 weekend gets. The circuit is close to the city centre, there is strictly no public parking, and trams and trains between the city and Albert Park are free for ticket holders on event days. You can walk back to the city after the action in 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the gate. Getting to Australia is the long part: flights from London take one stop at least.

▸ What to expect

  • Four days at the track: the event opens on Thursday, when select grandstand seats are unreserved and General Admission ticket holders can try them out.
  • Grandstand picks: formula1.com suggests the Waite stand over Turn 10 or the Brabham Grandstand at Turn 2, or general admission spots between Turns 8 and 10 on the far side of the lake.
  • Precincts around the park: Melbourne Walk, the Fan Forum Stage with driver appearances and the Lakeside Festival are open to all Park Pass holders.

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

From the UK: fly to Melbourne Airport (MEL). Qantas sells London Heathrow (LHR) to Melbourne flights via Perth, and notes that its Perth–London flights currently operate via Singapore. The circuit says Melbourne Airport is 29 km away, with the SkyBus Express running to Southern Cross Station; Avalon Airport (AVV) is 59 km away, linked to central Melbourne by SkyBus. British citizens need a visa: GOV.UK says you can usually get an eVisitor visa (no charge) or an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) through the app.

On race days: there is strictly no public parking at Albert Park. Trams and trains between the city and Albert Park are free for ticket holders, and shuttle trams run frequently at peak times: the Spencer Street express tram from Southern Cross to Gates 1 and 2, a dedicated shuttle tram from Flagstaff to Gate 3, and St Kilda Road trams from Flinders Street to Gates 5, 8, 9 and 10. Anzac Station, on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines through the Metro Tunnel, is an 8-minute walk from Gate 5 (use Exit 3), and train travel between State Library, Town Hall and Anzac is free for ticket holders. Taxi ranks are at Gates 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 10, rideshare bays at Gates 1, 2, 3, 8 and 10, and supervised valet bike parking at Gates 5 and 10. This comes from the circuit's current getting-here page; check it again closer to the race.

▸ Tickets & entry

Tickets & entry

Tickets are sold through the official ticketing partner, Ticketmaster, linked from the Australian Grand Prix ticket page, and through authorised agents listed by the promoter. The general public sale opened on 6 October 2026. There are no tickets at the gates. Options include Park Pass (general admission), grandstands and hospitality, as 4-day, 2-day or single-day tickets.

Children aged 3 to 14 need a junior ticket; under-3s get in free with an adult ticket holder. Tickets are mobile tickets in your Ticketmaster account, and screenshots aren't accepted. You can forward Park Pass and grandstand tickets to a friend, or resell them through Ticketmaster. The race is a declared major event in Victoria, so it's illegal to advertise tickets for more than 10% above face value, and the promoter says tickets bought from unauthorised third-party sites are at your own risk.

▸ Good to know

Practical tips & etiquette

Use the trams: there's no public parking, and travel between the city and the circuit is free with your ticket. After the racing, walking back to the city or to Anzac Station can beat the queues.

What you can't bring: the 2027 attendance conditions ban alcohol and glass not bought at the event, drinks with a broken seal (liquids in reusable bottles are poured away at entry), hard-cased eskies (soft cooler bags and polystyrene eskies are fine), chairs other than folding chairs or stools, drones, camera lenses longer than 300 mm, and animals other than assistance animals. Bags can be searched.

Weather: the race falls in Melbourne's autumn. The conditions warn that parts of the venue are exposed to direct sun, heat, high winds and heavy rain, so bring sun protection, water and a layer for the wind or rain.

Your phone is your ticket: keep it charged. If it dies on the day, Ticketmaster support staff outside select gates can help.

Noise: F1 cars are loud; ear protection is sensible, especially for children.

▸ Accessibility

Accessibility

The Accessible Services Office, inside Gate 1, handles shuttle bookings, wheelchair hire (limited numbers) and information. Accessible drop-off and pick-up points are at Gates 1, 2 and 10. Limited accessible parking needs both an Australian Disability Parking permit and a day-specific event permit; applications open on 1 February 2027.

Route 96 trams are low-floor with some level-access stops, and Anzac Station has lifts. Travellers Aid helps with wheelchair and buggy transfers between nearby tram stops, Anzac Station and Gates 1, 5 and 10 on all four days; note that St Kilda Road Junction (stop 30), closest to Gate 10, has steps. A free wheelchair-accessible shuttle (Wheelaway, 1800 133 320) runs inside the circuit, and there are lifts at Overpass 1.

Reserved wheelchair platforms are at the Schumacher and Jones Grandstands and Turn 12; Park Pass holders can use unreserved platforms at Turns 2–3, 4–5 and 12. Companion Card holders can book online for Park Pass and the Turn 12 platform, or via Ticketmaster's Accessible Booking Form or Accessible Seating Line (1800 100 030) for grandstands. There's a Changing Places facility near Gate 2, a sensory room at Gate 2, quiet rooms at Turn 12 and Pit Stop Park, Auslan interpreters on the main stages, closed captions on the big screens, and the venue is part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme.

▸ Safety & travel advice

Safety & travel advice

The FCDO doesn't advise against travel to Australia. It notes that escalation in the Middle East has caused airspace closures and delayed or cancelled flights that can affect journeys to other destinations, so check the advice for any country you transit, and your airline's updates, before you fly.
