FCDO travel advice: read before you book

FCDO doesn't advise against travel to Qatar, but warns that the context in the Middle East remains deeply unpredictable and the risk of sudden escalation is high, with strikes and retaliatory attacks across the region. It says British nationals in, or travelling through, the Middle East should be prepared for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruption.

Travel advice can change at short notice (checked 28 October 2026): read the current FCDO advice before you book, and check that your travel insurance covers you.

▸ What it is

The Qatar Grand Prix runs 27–29 November 2026 at Lusail International Circuit north of Doha, with the race under floodlights on Sunday evening.

The Qatar Grand Prix is round 22 of the 2026 Formula 1 season, from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November 2026 at Lusail International Circuit. The circuit is on the northern outskirts of Doha. It was built for Qatar's first MotoGP race in 2004, and Formula 1 first raced here in 2021.

The circuit

The 5.4 km lap was designed mainly with motorcycle racing in mind, and formula1.com describes it as fast and flowing, with medium- and high-speed corners. More than a kilometre of the lap is the main straight, which leads into Turn 1. The race is held under the circuit's floodlights. For spectators there are four grandstands (Main, North, and T16 and T2, named after Turns 16 and 2) and Lusail Hill, an elevated general admission area at Turn 1 with access to the Fan Zone.

The weekend

This is a standard weekend. Friday has two practice sessions, and Saturday has final practice and qualifying. The 57-lap race starts at 19:00 local time on Sunday 29 November (formula1.com). Tickets include the Fan Village and the same-day post-race concert, according to the circuit.

Planning a trip

Hamad International Airport, the Doha Metro and the circuit are all in the same metropolitan area, so most visitors stay in Doha or Lusail and travel in each day. The race is about a month away, so check the official ticket page and hotel availability before you book flights. Formula 1 has confirmed the 2027 race for 3–5 December 2027 if you'd rather plan a year ahead.

▸ What to expect

Highlights

  • The main straight: more than a kilometre long, leading into the Turn 1 braking zone, where formula1.com says most overtaking happens.
  • Lusail Hill: an elevated general admission viewing area at Turn 1, with Fan Zone access (Lusail International Circuit).
  • Main Grandstand: views of the start-finish straight, the pit lane and the team garages (formula1.com). It's the only grandstand with assigned seats (Lusail International Circuit).
  • F1 Fan Village and concert: entertainment, activities for adults and children, live performances and a same-day post-race concert are included with race tickets (Lusail International Circuit).

▸ Getting there

Getting there & around on event days

From the UK

Hamad International Airport (DOH) is Doha's international airport. On 28 October 2026 its arrivals board listed flights from London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), Manchester (MAN), Birmingham (BHX) and Edinburgh (EDI). Check current routes with the airline, as FCDO warns of possible flight cancellations and airspace closures in the region.

To the circuit on race days

  • Doha Metro: the airport has its own Metro station (Hamad Intl Airport T1), and Lusail QNB station is the nearest to the circuit. Hamad airport says live service updates and last-train times are shown in every station.
  • Shuttle: the circuit says a shuttle from Lusail Metro Station to the circuit is planned, with details to be announced closer to the event.
  • Car and taxi: race tickets include free parking access and a taxi pick-up and drop-off zone, according to the circuit.

Tickets are mobile tickets in the Lusail Tickets app, which the circuit says will carry updated venue access information closer to the event.

▸ Tickets & entry

Tickets & entry

Tickets are sold by Lusail International Circuit through its official ticket shop. Grandstand tickets (Main, North, T16 and T2) are three-day tickets only, and general admission on Lusail Hill is sold for all three days or single days. Hospitality packages are sold through the circuit's hospitality partner. On 28 October 2026 the circuit's race page showed these ticket types with booking buttons.

The circuit lists its official and authorised resellers on its FAQ page. It warns that sites such as Viagogo, StubHub, SeatUnique and Get Me In! are unauthorised, and that tickets bought from unauthorised sellers are invalid and won't get you in. Tickets can be transferred to family or friends but not resold. There are no refunds, changes or upgrades after purchase.

Children aged two and under go free without a seat, except in hospitality areas. Formula 1 has confirmed 3–5 December 2027 for the next race; 2027 sales dates haven't been published yet.

  • Going this year? The race is about a month away. Check the official ticket shop and hotel availability before booking flights.
