Après & vibe

A homely on-site cafeteria for warm drinks and snacks is the social hub on the rare busy snow days.

The snow centre

Le Monty is a modest, community-run winter slope on the high plateau above Lierneux in Belgium's Liège province, deep in the wooded Hautes Ardennes. It is a genuine little outdoor hill rather than any kind of dome or artificial centre: a couple of short alpine pistes, marked cross-country loops and a children's sledging run, served by a simple cafeteria. The appeal is convenience and atmosphere for Walloon families and beginners rather than serious terrain or altitude. Because it sits at only a few hundred metres and relies entirely on natural snowfall, it operates for short, unpredictable spells and can go weeks without opening. When the Ardennes do turn white, it becomes a cheerful, accessible spot for a day on the snow close to home.

The slope

Beginners

Gentle short pistes and a sledging area that suit first-timers and children.

Intermediates

Enough of a run for a relaxed cruise, but limited in length.

Advanced

Little to hold stronger skiers beyond a quick outing.

Experts & off-piste

No expert terrain.

Ardennes cross-country trails

Marked langlauf loops thread the surrounding forest and heath, drawing as many Nordic skiers and snowshoers as downhillers when snow lies.
