The snow centre
Lokve is a genuine outdoor ski area set on a high plateau on the Cmiljača massif a short drive from the town of Berane, in the mountainous north-east of Montenegro. It is small and low-key, with a base near the Lokve plateau and lifts climbing the open hillside above, and it forms part of a wider Montenegrin ambition to link several nearby areas into a much larger network over time. Being high and northern by Montenegrin standards, it gets real winter snow, but it is very much a developing local centre rather than a polished resort, and operations here have been intermittent in recent years. It suits adventurous skiers and travellers exploring the wilder side of Montenegro rather than those after extensive lift-served terrain.
The slope
The open plateau slopes suit beginners and gentle progression.
