The lively little town of Žabljak nearby has restaurants, bars and mountain guesthouses catering to skiers and hikers.
The snow centre
Ski Centar Durmitor 'Savin Kuk' is a genuine mountain ski area rising above the town of Žabljak, inside the spectacular Durmitor National Park in northern Montenegro. Set against jagged limestone peaks and glacial lakes, it delivers the highest and most demanding lift-served skiing in the country, with a substantial vertical drop from the upper slopes of Savin Kuk. The infrastructure is dated and the area small, but the scenery is world-class and the terrain steep enough to hold intermediate and advanced skiers. Sitting at real altitude in the Dinaric mountains, it gets proper, cold winter snow through the season. Come for dramatic peaks, quiet slopes and a taste of wild Montenegrin mountain country.
The slope
Some easier lower runs, though the area leans towards steeper skiing.
Good, sustained cruising on the mid-mountain pistes.
The upper Savin Kuk slopes offer real pitch and vertical.
Steep terrain and Durmitor backcountry reward strong, self-reliant skiers.
Durmitor National Park scenery
The slopes sit amid the UNESCO-listed Durmitor massif of soaring limestone peaks and glacial lakes, some of the Balkans' finest mountain scenery.
