The snow centre
Malo Polje sits on the high Igman plateau above Sarajevo, best known as the site of the ski-jumping and Nordic-combined competitions at the 1984 Winter Olympics. The great Olympic jumps themselves stand disused, scarred by the war of the 1990s, but the site around them has been revived with a small beginners' slope, a modest lift and a restaurant. This is a low-key learner and family hill rather than a full mountain resort, and its real pull is the atmosphere of skiing beneath one of the Balkans' most evocative sporting relics. Nearby Veliko Polje keeps kilometres of cross-country trails in use. Its height on Igman gives a genuine but short and variable mid-winter snow season.
The slope
The revived slope is aimed squarely at first-timers and children.
Limited pisted terrain, better paired with the bigger Bjelašnica and Igman areas nearby.
No advanced downhill terrain on the beginner slope itself.
Not an expert venue; the historic jumps are monuments, not skiable.
