Après & vibe

A mountain lodge and eco-house facility provide warmth, drinks and simple food between runs.

The snow centre

Ponijeri is a genuine but very compact mountain ski centre run by the municipality of Kakanj, set on a forested ridge above the town in central Bosnia. It has recently been modernised, with a new lift and tidied slopes turning it into a tidy little day area for families and beginners from Kakanj, Zenica and the surrounding valleys. The single main run is short and undemanding, best suited to learners, children and anyone wanting an inexpensive taste of snow close to home. The setting, in pine woods at a decent altitude for the region, gives it a more wintry feel than its size suggests. Off the slope it is developing gradually, with plans for wider adrenaline and eco facilities.

The slope

Beginners

The gentle main slope is squarely aimed at first-timers and children.

Intermediates

Enough to cruise for a day, but limited in scope.

Advanced

Little to challenge stronger skiers.

Experts & off-piste

No expert terrain.

A quiet Bosnian day-hill

Ponijeri offers an unpretentious, low-cost day on snow amid central Bosnia's pine ridges, popular with local families away from the bigger Olympic mountains near Sarajevo.
