Après & vibe

A friendly, home-grown atmosphere driven by local volunteers rather than commercial facilities.

The snow centre

Skijalište Vučići is a small real outdoor ski slope barely a kilometre and a half from the centre of Ogulin, run entirely by the volunteers of Ski Club Ogulin on donations and goodwill. The club revived a hillside where locals had skied since the mid-twentieth century, giving the town a place to ski again after the fire that destroyed the nearby Bjelolasica Olympic centre. It is a modest learner and family hill with a short piste, a sledging slope and a couple of lifts, and remarkably it is completely free to use. Sitting at low elevation in continental Croatia, it only operates when winter delivers enough natural snow, so seasons are short and unpredictable. It is a heart-warming local project rather than a destination resort.
