Sustainability in Britain

Travelling Britain by train, on foot and by ferry

Acediscovery / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY 4.0)

Britain is small, and the low-carbon way round it is usually the nicest way too. The rail network reaches almost every region on this map — including the West Highland Line and the Settle–Carlisle, two of the great scenic journeys — and ferries link the islands. National trails, canal towpaths and long-distance cycle routes do the rest. VisitBritain's own green-city and eco-stay guides are worth a look before you book.
