Après & vibe
A base hotel and simple mountain cafes provide warmth; central Bishkek is close for evenings out.
The snow centre
Kashka-Suu is a compact ski base in the Tian Shan mountains just south of Bishkek, making it the most convenient winter outing for the Kyrgyz capital. It is a real outdoor area rather than a manicured resort, with a spread of runs of varying difficulty served by lifts and a hotel at the base for those staying over. The scenery is the pull: bare, snow-streaked ridges of the Ala-Too on the fringe of Ala-Archa National Park. Terrain suits beginners and intermediates, while the surrounding mountains offer off-piste and ski-touring for the adventurous. Snow is natural and the season runs through the Central-Asian winter, though the area is small and facilities are simple.
The slope
Gentle lower runs and lessons make it a good starting point.
The mainstay, with a range of pisted slopes.
Steeper lines and off-piste in the surrounding peaks.
Ski-touring and backcountry potential for the well-equipped.
Skiing minutes from Bishkek
The closest developed slopes to the Kyrgyz capital, set against the dramatic ridges of the Tian Shan near Ala-Archa.
