The snow centre
Toguz-Bulak is a genuine, if small, mountain ski area tucked into the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range of the Tian Shan, roughly between the Alamedin and Issyk-Ata gorges and within easy reach of Bishkek. Despite having just a single lift, it offers a respectable vertical drop and a long descent, which makes it one of the more popular local hills for skiers from the capital. Terrain sits at a comfortable mid-altitude, and the setting among the snow-covered Tian Shan foothills is a real draw. It is an unpretentious, uncrowded day-trip mountain rather than a full-service resort, with facilities kept simple. Snow can be good in a cold Central Asian winter.
