The snow centre
Normafa is not a formal resort but a green, plateau-topped hillside in the Buda Hills near János Hill, the highest point in Budapest, that turns into the city's favourite snow playground whenever winter delivers. When snow falls, Budapesters flock up here to ski a short slope, sledge and cross-country tour among the beech woods, with the Vasas ski house and a Nordic trail network at hand. It is entirely dependent on natural snow, so in mild winters it may see little or no skiing at all — the character is a joyful, improvised city snow day rather than a lift-served mountain. It suits families and casual skiers wanting fresh air and views over the capital, easily reached from the centre by cog railway, chairlift or bus.

Gentle, short slopes are ideal for children and first-timers on a snowy day.
