The resort
Amirsoy is a purpose-built resort in the Chimgan area of the Western Tian Shan, a striking range of bare, sunlit peaks northeast of Tashkent. Developed to international standards with a smart gondola and neatly groomed runs, it is the showpiece of Uzbekistan's young ski scene and a world away from the region's older, rougher slopes. The terrain suits beginners and intermediates, with wide, sunny pistes and a relaxed, family-oriented feel. Its closeness to the capital makes it a popular weekend and day-trip destination for Tashkent residents. Snow is continental and can be sun-affected on the exposed southerly faces, but midwinter delivers cold, dependable cover.

How to get there
Tashkent (TAS) is the gateway, roughly a couple of hours' drive from the resort; despite appearances on a map, Almaty in Kazakhstan is across a border and not the sensible airport.
A road transfer of about two hours from Tashkent, climbing from the plains into the Chimgan foothills.
Best time: January and February bring the coldest, most reliable snow before the strong Central Asian sun softens the slopes in spring.
