The snow centre
Chimgan is a genuine outdoor mountain ski area high in the Chatkal mountains of the Western Tian Shan, north-east of Tashkent, and the most established ski destination in Uzbekistan. Its slopes drop from the shoulders of Greater Chimgan peak, served by chairlifts and simpler tows, and the skiing is real Central Asian mountain terrain rather than any artificial facility. The area suits a range of visitors from beginners to adventurous intermediates, and is popular as a winter escape from the capital, often paired with the neighbouring Beldersay slopes and the Charvak reservoir below. The setting is dramatic, with big Tian Shan peaks all around. At a solid altitude it holds a proper winter season, though snowfall varies year to year.
