Overseas France

France in four oceans

Eleven territories from the Caribbean to the Pacific — all of them France, none of them within four thousand kilometres of Paris. They are grouped the way people think of them rather than by constitutional status, and each has its own page with a map at its own scale.

The Caribbean

Tropical, French-speaking, and on the euro — but eight hours from Paris.

The Indian Ocean

Volcanic islands off the coast of Africa, with a Creole culture of their own.

The Pacific

The far side of the world — lagoons, atolls and a twenty-hour flight.

South America

Amazon rainforest, and the only part of the European Union on the mainland.

Cold water and cod — a fragment of France off the Canadian coast.

Corsica is a region in its own right; these are the smaller islands — Ré, Yeu, Belle-Île, Porquerolles, Bréhat and the rest.

Overseas collectivities
